The Bondy Family
Claude and Jennifer Bondy and their son Robert live in the scenic wilds of inland Alaska, on Mile 68 of the Denali Highway that runs from Paxson to Cantwell, where they operate the Alpine Lodge. Almost 70 miles from the nearest town, the Bondys never miss the opportunity to vote.
On Election Day the Bondys set out in the early hours to trek by dog sled and snowmobile over 68 miles across a stunning landscape, to reach their truck. From there it is another 150 miles on snow-covered roads, passing through the federal caribou area, to their polling place.
Evoking the pioneering spirit of America’s earliest settlers, this family’s journey on Election Day visually places the passion for democracy in the context of an immense and beautiful American landscape.
